Paul's German Sour Cream Twists

1 pkg active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
3 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sour cream
1 egg, whole
2 egg, yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
----ROLL OUT TIME----
1 granulated sugar
1 mix of chopped nuts (pecans, waln; uts, cashews, etc.)

Mix water and dry yeast and set aside. Sift the flour and salt together and mix in shortening and butter using hands. In large bowl blend all ingredients together using your hands. Mixing thoroughly. Cover bowl with cloth or plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours (preferably overnight). ** Rolling out time ** Divide dough into four equal parts. Roll out one portion on a board that has been spread with granulated sugar (NOT Flour), keeping to as nearly a rectangle shape as possible.
